Gifts That Make a Difference
Years ago Joe Lotzkar took his responsibility very seriously to provide for his young family in the event of his untimely passing. His life insurance policies provided a sense of security, particularly when their value was compounded by reinvesting the dividends. Later, when their children left the nest, Joe and his wife, Ruth, wondered what they could do with the small policies.
They discovered that the beneficiary could be changed from named members of his family to a named non-profit society. It was a simple matter to transfer ownership of the policies to two of their favoured organizations. Joe continued to pay the annual premiums and he received charitable tax receipts for the premiums issued by the two foundations they chose to support.
When Joe passed away in 2008, the two charities received the value of the policies, gifts they greatly appreciated.
Our choice to be the new beneficiaries of these policies are the Federation of British Columbia Naturalists Foundation and the Sierra Club Foundation. These groups will receive sizeable settlements in the future that will be used to support the type of projects that we are dedicated to in our lifetimes.

My father was ahead of his time in making plans for his estate that included major gifts to his favoured charities. He wanted to support the types of projects that he and Ruth were dedicated to in their lifetimes. As he often said, "it's truly a win-win situation all round!"
